What Is NightLase®?

NightLase® is a non-invasive laser treatment from Fotona® designed to improve the quality of your sleep. Using gentle, controlled laser heat, it tightens the collagen in the soft palate and the surrounding tissue at the back of the throat. Firmer tissue vibrates less as you breathe, which reduces the volume of snoring and helps keep the airway open through the night.

There are no incisions, no needles and no anesthesia. Each session is short, and you can go straight back to your day. At Ultimate You Med Spa in Colorado Springs, NightLase® is performed on our Fotona® laser platform by a licensed provider, after a consultation to confirm it is the right option for you.

The cause

What Causes Snoring?

Snoring happens when air cannot move freely through your nose and mouth during sleep. The airway narrows, the soft tissue vibrates, and that vibration is the sound. In more severe cases the airway can become blocked altogether, which is known as obstructive sleep apnea.

Many things contribute to snoring: age, nasal and sinus problems, carrying extra weight, alcohol, smoking, some medications, and the position you sleep in.

The cost

What Is the Impact of Snoring?

Snoring affects the snorer and the person sleeping next to them. Broken sleep, night after night, wears on health and quality of life. Snorers often report tiredness, morning headaches, irritability and a dry mouth, and many couples end up sleeping in separate rooms because of it.

Research has also linked habitual snoring with a higher risk of heart and circulation problems, which is one more reason to take it seriously rather than sleep through it.

What Are the Benefits of NightLase®?

A comfortable, non-invasive way to address snoring at its source, without anything to wear at night and without surgery.

  • Reduces the vibrations that cause snoring
  • No mask, no mouthpiece, no surgery
  • Short sessions with no anesthesia
  • No downtime, back to your day right away
  • Many people notice a difference after the first session
  • Better sleep for you and your partner

Who Is a Good Candidate for NightLase®?

NightLase® may be a good fit if you:

  • Snore loudly or most nights
  • Have tried, or want to avoid, a mouthpiece or CPAP mask
  • Want to avoid surgery and recovery time
  • Have a partner whose sleep is suffering too
  • Have had a sleep study, or are willing to have one, to rule out sleep apnea

Please note: NightLase® is a treatment for snoring. It is not a treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. If you have symptoms of sleep apnea, we will ask you to complete a sleep study first, and NightLase® may be used alongside the care your physician recommends.

How NightLase® Works

Gentle heat, firmer tissue, quieter nights

Laser energy gently heats the tissue of the airway, causing a tightening effect that helps keep it open while you sleep. NightLase® is performed as a series of approximately three short treatments spaced over about two months, with no anesthesia and nothing to recover from. Each treatment happens in two simple steps.

Preconditioning

The laser light gently pre-heats the soft palate and surrounding tissue, preparing it for the treatment pass. You feel warmth spreading across the back of the mouth, and nothing more.

Tissue strengthening

A second pass delivers controlled heat that contracts the collagen in the tissue and prompts your body to build more. Over the series the tissue becomes firmer, vibrates less, and the airway stays more open through the night.

What to expect

Before, during and after

Before

Your consultation

  • A consultation at our Colorado Springs clinic confirms that NightLase® is right for your symptoms.
  • If you have signs of sleep apnea, we will ask you to complete a sleep study first.
  • To measure your improvement, you may be asked to record your sleep for three nights before your first treatment.
During

The treatment

  • Your provider uses a handheld laser to gently warm the tissue inside the mouth and at the back of the throat.
  • You feel a warm sensation. No anesthesia is needed.
  • Sessions are short, typically 15 to 30 minutes from start to finish.
After

Back to your day

  • There is no downtime. Eat, drink, talk and work as usual.
  • Some people notice a mildly dry or scratchy throat for a few hours.
  • Results build over the series. You repeat the three-night recordings afterwards so you can hear the difference for yourself.
Your options

How NightLase® compares

Most treatments for snoring try to do the same thing: keep the breathing passage open. They go about it very differently.

Dental appliances

Something to wear

Custom-made mouthpieces can be effective for some people, but they only work on the nights you wear them, and many people stop.

CPAP

A mask and a machine

Continuous positive airway pressure is the standard care for sleep apnea and the snoring that comes with it. It works, and many people find the mask hard to live with night after night.

Surgery

Removing tissue

Surgical options usually remove tissue from the uvula and the back of the throat. They are invasive and typically come with a long and uncomfortable recovery.

NightLase®

Firm the tissue instead

Nothing to wear, nothing removed, no downtime. A series of short laser sessions firms the tissue that vibrates, so you keep breathing the way you always have, only more quietly.

Results

What to expect from your series

How soon will I notice a difference?

Many people notice quieter nights after the first session. The full effect builds over the series as the tissue continues to firm in the weeks that follow each treatment.

How long do the results last?

Results typically last up to a year or longer, depending on the individual. A single maintenance session can extend them when you notice the snoring creeping back.

How many treatments will I need?

Approximately three, spaced over about two months. Your provider will confirm your plan at your consultation, and individual results vary.

Real Results. Real Confidence.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Wondering whether NightLase® is the right route to quieter nights? These are the questions we hear most, answered plainly, so you know what to expect before you book.

What is NightLase®?

NightLase® is a non-invasive laser treatment from Fotona® designed to reduce snoring. Gentle laser heat tightens the soft tissue in the throat and mouth, which helps keep the airway open and reduces the vibrations that make the sound.

Does NightLase® hurt?

Most people describe a warm sensation at the back of the mouth and nothing more. No anesthesia is needed, there are no needles or incisions, and the treatment is well tolerated.

Is NightLase® safe?

NightLase® is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive laser treatment. There are no cuts and no anesthesia, and the laser energy is directed only at the tissue being treated. Every session at our Colorado Springs clinic is performed by a licensed provider under our supervising physician.

Will NightLase® treat my sleep apnea?

No. NightLase® is a treatment for snoring, not for obstructive sleep apnea. If you have symptoms of sleep apnea, such as pauses in breathing, gasping at night or heavy daytime tiredness, we will ask you to complete a sleep study first. Where a physician has diagnosed and is treating sleep apnea, NightLase® may be used alongside that care.

How many sessions will I need, and how far apart?

A course is approximately three short treatments spaced over about two months. Some people notice a change after the first session, and the full effect builds over the series. Your provider will confirm your plan at your consultation.

Is there any downtime?

None. You can eat, drink, talk and go back to work straight after each session. A mildly dry or scratchy throat for a few hours is the most people report.

How long do the results last?

Results typically last up to a year or longer, depending on factors like lifestyle and how much you snore to begin with. A maintenance session can extend the benefit.

Who is a good candidate?

Adults who snore loudly or most nights and want a non-surgical option with nothing to wear. It is also a popular choice for people who cannot get on with a CPAP mask or a mouthpiece. A consultation, and a sleep study where needed, will confirm whether it is right for you.

Can NightLase® be combined with other approaches?

Yes. Your provider may recommend it alongside lifestyle changes such as sleep position or weight management, or alongside care your physician has already prescribed. It also pairs well with the other Fotona® treatments we offer.

How much does NightLase® cost, and is it covered by insurance?

Cost depends on the number of sessions in your plan, and we will give you the full figure at your consultation before you commit to anything. NightLase® is usually considered an elective treatment and is not typically covered by insurance. Ask us about current specials.
